Quinine is a flavor component of tonic water and bitter lemon and back in the days these came in a powdered form. The army of the British East India Company in India started to mix the quinine with sugar, carbonated water, lime and gin to mask the bitter taste of the powder. Et voila our well favorite Saturday night drink was born. It was in 1870 when the official tonic water was introduced and the G&T found fame across the world.
